Le Sultanat Brunei Darussalam est un pays qui pratique mojoritairement la religion musulmane.

Toute la nourriture vendue ou consommée au Brunei est halal c'est à dire l'abatage halal doit respecter le rituel de la "dhabiha". C'est à dire l'animal doit être égorgé et saigné. Il implique d'abattre un animal vivant. Ce qui empêche l'étourdissement des animaux, généralement pratiqué dans les abattoirs par électrocution. La viande halal ne doit ensuite plus être en contact avec une autre viande non halal. Ce qui est halal est ce qui est "autorisé".
